Sending a Message

  1. Open a channel from the channel list.

  2. Click the message input at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Type your message.

  4. Press Enter or click the Send button.

Your message appears in the conversation immediately. Other channel members see it in real time.

Tip: Messages are sent with optimistic delivery — they appear in the conversation right away while being delivered in the background. If sending fails, you will see a Failed to send notice with a Retry button.

Formatting and Content

Messages support plain text. You can include:

  • Regular text messages of any length

  • @mentions to tag people (see the Mentions and Notifications article)

  • File attachments (see the File Attachments article)

Editing a Message

You can edit messages you have sent:

  1. Hover over the message you want to edit.

  2. Click the more actions menu (three dots).

  3. Select Edit message.

  4. The message text becomes editable. Make your changes.

  5. Press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel.

Edited messages display an (edited) label next to the timestamp so other members know the message was modified.

Note: You can only edit your own messages. To edit other people’s messages, you need the communication:messages:edit permission.

Deleting a Message

To delete a message:

  1. Hover over the message.

  2. Click the more actions menu (three dots).

  3. Select Delete message.

  4. Confirm the action in the dialog that appears.

Deleted messages are removed permanently. Other members will see that a message was deleted.

Note: You can always delete your own messages. To delete other people’s messages, you need the communication:messages:delete permission.

Pinning and Unpinning Messages

Pin important messages to make them easy to find. Pinned messages appear in a dedicated list in the Channel Info panel.

To pin a message

  1. Hover over the message.

  2. Click the pin icon in the hover actions, or open the more actions menu and select Pin message.

To unpin a message

  1. Hover over the pinned message.

  2. Click the pin icon again, or select Unpin message from the more actions menu.

You can also view all pinned messages from the Channel Info panel on the right side. Clicking a pinned message in the list scrolls you to that message in the conversation.

Tip: Use pinning for announcements, decisions, important links, or anything the team needs to reference quickly.

Copying a Message

To copy a message’s text to your clipboard:

  1. Hover over the message.

  2. Click the more actions menu (three dots).

  3. Select Copy message.

The message text is copied and ready to paste elsewhere.

Real-Time Features

Typing Indicators

When someone is composing a message in the channel you are viewing, you will see a typing indicator at the bottom of the message area (e.g., “Anna is typing...”). If multiple people are typing, the indicator shows up to three names or a count.

Live Updates

All messages, edits, deletions, and pins update in real time for everyone in the channel. There is no need to refresh the page — changes appear automatically as they happen.

Connection Status

A small indicator in the message area header shows your connection status:

Status

Meaning

Connected

Everything is working normally

Connecting

Establishing a connection — messages will appear once connected

Reconnecting

Temporarily lost connection, attempting to reconnect

Disconnected

No active connection — check your internet

Scrolling and Navigation

Loading Older Messages

Messages load automatically as you scroll up. The system fetches older messages in batches, so you can scroll back through the entire conversation history.

Jump to Latest

If you have scrolled up in the conversation, a Jump to latest button appears at the bottom. It shows the count of new messages received while you were scrolled up. Click it to return to the most recent messages.

Date Separators

Messages are grouped by date with visual separators showing Today, Yesterday, or the full date. This makes it easy to find messages from a specific day.
